When a vision comes to fruition, you can’t help but smile! At SFPC our vision was to find the perfect venue: the right location, great food, drinks and attentive waitstaff, great parking, the right ambiance... and we have landed at the City Winery! We have secured our second show in the main concert hall, on Saturday May 19th and we will be featuring two Soul Food Poetry Café favorites to start our 2018 calendar… Jerami Matlock and Aubrey the Poet!
Jerami Matlock is no stranger to the Soul Food Poetry Café stage. After collaborating with Imani Rhema in 2011, he has become a SFPC audience favorite. Jerami’s musical journey began in San Diego, California with his musician mother. He developed his craft by performing in talent shows as a pre-teen. His biggest development as a performer began with becoming a member of the world-renowned Fisk Jubilee Singers. During his three years with the Fisk Jubilee Singers, he toured extensively throughout the U.S. and Italy. Jerami graduated from the historic Fisk University with Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with a concentration in Voice. He released his solo debut EP entitled Musiclife in 2011. Musiclife is a handcrafted eclectic blend of soul, hip-hop, R&B, Afro-Latin jazz, and gospel. Jerami is a gifted singer, songwriter, producer, and arranger. During the SFPC Poetic Soul Sessions V, Jerami will be the lead vocal feature for the event and will deliver a dynamic concert performance Nashville will not soon forget!
While residing in the inner-city areas of Chattanooga in his early life, Aubrey the Poet was nurtured by a loving mother and grandmother to become a man bringing to life the words of generations of Southern sharecroppers, street hustlers, and tortured souls for whom the word was not given a platform from which to speak. Aubrey uses spoken word to motivate and captivate audiences across the country. His boyish appeal and endearing smile helps him charm his way into the hearts and minds of many - vocalizing words that create a spellbound presence over captivated audiences. His insightful and heartfelt petitions seek to bring the art of spoken word forth to the mainstream and share the jewels of knowledge to the masses. Aubrey seeks to change this generation’s misconception that spoken word art is something that should relegated to coffeehouses. Instead, his talents prove that the performing arts should be displayed across the TV screen, performance stages and radio waves.
Founded over ten years ago by Nashville poet Imani Rhema, the Soul Food Poetry Cafe is one of Music City’s longest running live music and spoken word showcases - featuring some of the most talented artists and vocalists in the community. Mat Band. Special performances by Tiara LaShai, Evan Acklin, Inner City South, Jermaine Johnson, Zhanell, and more! Don’t miss this amazing show.
