Midday Music & Mimosas at The City Winery!!

Soul Food Poetry Cafe is very proud to bring The Next Generation to Nashville! One our SFPC family members and a crowd favorite, Dichotomy the Poet, will be our featured poet. You have seen Dichotomy on our stages since we had this idea to bring open mic poetry from the underground to Nashville mainstream nightlife back in 2007. He has joined forces with Saxophonist Trey Daniels, Trumpeteer Lance Fury, and Singer/Songwriter Desmond Champion to create a entertainment force to be reckoned with, THE NEXT GENERATION.
Dichotomy's brainchild, Aural Fixation, is a quarterly dynamic event that is always sold out in Atlanta. Get ready to feast your eyes and ears on Aural Fixation's first brunch event -

SFPC Presents AURAL FIXATION: Midday Music & Mimosas! Tickets on Sale Now!

Soul Food Poetry Café is proud to present Aural Fixation: Midday Music and Mimosas – A dynamic spoken word and live music experience featuring one of the hottest groups in the mid-south: Atlanta’s The Next Generation!

For the last five years, Aural Fixation has been known over the city of Atlanta for bringing very talented poets and musicians together for a quarterly creative extravaganza founded and hosted by Dichotomy the Poet, and always featuring The Next Generation: Dichotomy the Poet himself, Trey Daniels - international Saxophonist, Lance Fury on trumpet, and Singer/Songwriter Desmond Champion.

Dichotomy the Poet is mesmerizing, entertaining, and known for speaking the TRUTH about relationships, love, life, supporting the African American community, being the man he is because of his father, and knowing how to love a woman because of his mother. Dichotomy finds beauty in diversity. Living at the intersection of art and business, the internationally known poet has conquered the world more than once. By opening himself up to different perspectives, Dichotomy is bringing spoken word to a larger audience than ever before. He has been performing spoken word around the world for over a decade, and has produced four amazing spoken word albums.

Attracted by Atlanta’s vibrant musical atmosphere, Trey moved there immediately after he finished college at Florida State University in 2011 and began establishing his presence as a force in the Atlanta music community. Trey’s first recorded single, 86th St., has climbed the Billboard charts to reach #24 and his highly-anticipated album, Evolve, will debut this fall! Trey has shared the stage with musical greats such as Jill Scott, Joey Sommerville, Kim Waters, Smokey Robinson, and Najee. Trey is currently on a world tour with R&B legend Anita Baker and looks forward to reaching higher heights with his unique gift of music.

Lance Fury’s style reflects his world: Jazz injected with Funk, House, Drum and Bass as well as Rhythm and Blues. His roots consisted of playing in church and listening to Atlanta's Jazz 91.9 FM WCLK, eventually leading him to college. Lance was part of the notorious FAMU Marching 100. In 2005, Lance founded and lead a live jam session in Florida titled Moonlit Mondays for years before returning to Atlanta. He's worked with numerous artists such as Chantae Cann, Young Jeezy, Cody Chesnutt, B.O.B and many others. He recently completed a world tour with Janelle Monae.

What do Maxwell, The Weeknd, and Prince have in common? Most of their top-selling hits are sung in the silky, fluttering vocal range of falsetto. Add a dazzling smile, his guitar, and some southern swag, and you have a hint of what Desmond Champion is all about! Desmond burst onto Atlanta’s popping music scene several years ago with this one thought in mind: chasing his dream of bringing his satiny-smooth vocals into the ears, minds, and hearts of many as possible. He will offer a show stopping performance like you’ve never seen before.

Venue: The City Winery Lounge

Poetic Soul Sessions Vol. V Tickets on Sale NOW!

When a vision comes to fruition, you can’t help but smile! At SFPC our vision was to find the perfect venue: the right location, great food, drinks and attentive waitstaff, great parking, the right ambiance... and we have landed at the City Winery! We have secured our second show in the main concert hall, on Saturday May 19th and we will be featuring two Soul Food Poetry Café favorites to start our 2018 calendar… Jerami Matlock and Aubrey the Poet!
Jerami Matlock is no stranger to the Soul Food Poetry Café stage. After collaborating with Imani Rhema in 2011, he has become a SFPC audience favorite. Jerami’s musical journey began in San Diego, California with his musician mother. He developed his craft by performing in talent shows as a pre-teen. His biggest development as a performer began with becoming a member of the world-renowned Fisk Jubilee Singers. During his three years with the Fisk Jubilee Singers, he toured extensively throughout the U.S. and Italy. Jerami graduated from the historic Fisk University with Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with a concentration in Voice. He released his solo debut EP entitled Musiclife in 2011. Musiclife is a handcrafted eclectic blend of soul, hip-hop, R&B, Afro-Latin jazz, and gospel. Jerami is a gifted singer, songwriter, producer, and arranger. During the SFPC Poetic Soul Sessions V, Jerami will be the lead vocal feature for the event and will deliver a dynamic concert performance Nashville will not soon forget!
While residing in the inner-city areas of Chattanooga in his early life, Aubrey the Poet was nurtured by a loving mother and grandmother to become a man bringing to life the words of generations of Southern sharecroppers, street hustlers, and tortured souls for whom the word was not given a platform from which to speak. Aubrey uses spoken word to motivate and captivate audiences across the country. His boyish appeal and endearing smile helps him charm his way into the hearts and minds of many - vocalizing words that create a spellbound presence over captivated audiences. His insightful and heartfelt petitions seek to bring the art of spoken word forth to the mainstream and share the jewels of knowledge to the masses. Aubrey seeks to change this generation’s misconception that spoken word art is something that should relegated to coffeehouses. Instead, his talents prove that the performing arts should be displayed across the TV screen, performance stages and radio waves.
Founded over ten years ago by Nashville poet Imani Rhema, the Soul Food Poetry Cafe is one of Music City’s longest running live music and spoken word showcases - featuring some of the most talented artists and vocalists in the community. Join us for Poetic Soul Sessions Vol. V featuring award-winning national spoken word artist Aubrey the Poet, and a dynamic live music experience by Neo-Soul and R&B Front man Jerami Matlock and The J. Mat Band. Special performances by Tiara LaShai, Evan Acklin, Inner City South, Jermaine Johnson, Zhanell, and more! Don’t miss this amazing show. We are excited to have the main concert hall at the City Winery and expect a full house! Please support the Spoken Word Movement in Nashville! Contact Imani at 615-568-7144 for more information.
