Featured Vocalist Mera Cox
An amazing vocalist and passionate lyricist, Mera Cox’s artistic
gifts can breathtakingly color any canvas. Her passionate delivery captivates
each of the senses. Music is not only what she does, music is who she is.
Much like everyone one else tucked neatly away into the Neo-Soul
category, Mera garners her soulful influences from the early greats of her
youth. This 30-something Pisces came up in a time where Diana Ross’
"Upside Down" was gaining mainstream popularity. Who wouldn't want to
follow in the footsteps of R&B's princess of soul, and pop-and the most
sampled female in hip hop?
Born and raised in a forgotten Rust Belt city in Ohio, Mera
emulated the vocalists that would later fashion her unique style. Her parent’s
shelves were adorned with records form artists like Sade, Anita Baker, Whitney
Houston, Stevie Wonder, George Clinton, Bootsy Collins, and Patrice Rushen.
There were no “genres” in her house - just feel good soul-stirring music.
Mera’s voice has been shaped by the trials & triumphs of her
life. Her vocals are soulful and melodic with an earthy grit that leaves you
enraptured in her mystery. Her versatility causes a question to stir: Who
is she and where did she come from?
Raised in Youngstown, there were not many places for an eclectic
girl like her, so like many greats before her, she sought solace in church and
school choirs. As a young adult she sang anywhere there was an opportunity:
open mics, weddings, and birthday parties. If there was a microphone, there she
would be. Although she worked for a time as a paid performer, she could often
be found singing just for the love of it.
Don't miss Mera's Nashville debut at The Poetic Soul Sessions Vol.
